I hate the term 'recessionista' but...

Moving to New York was a crazy and unique experience for me, as it is for most people. The ordeal has been particularly trying on my sense of fashion and current wardrobe. I mean, this is New York where every man, woman, and child (ride the subway when the kids are just leaving school and you'll see what I mean) has great style, great stuff, or is just downright fantastic-looking and doesn't even have to try!

You might tell me to go shopping for nice new things, since I now live in THE fashion capital, and admittedly...5th Ave, Soho, and tons of random boutiques and vintage shops are all within a short walk from our place. However, I keep running into two problems. A little thing called R-E-C-E-S-S-I-O-N, and that closet space comes at a premium in this city...I'm sharing mine with a boy who hangs onto everything like me (though this has really come in handy for us)!

Nevermind that we donated, thrifted, or ebayed a ton of stuff before even moving here! Even with sales galore, I have still been unmoved by what I've seen in retail...with plenty of 'guides to purging your closet and finding your style' to be found, I've taken a good hard look at what I have, and scour the web for inspiration (cancelled the fashion mag subscriptions to save some moola). I'll follow soon with a few lessons learned, and some of my favorite (or newfound) sites that I look to daily!
